SOAR

Diliman Prep is not only committed to lead the way to learning, but also to lead the way in building the community, society and the country. Over many years, Diliman Prep has supported various types of community projects and programs implemented mostly through the school’s mother organization, Diliman Educational Foundation or DEC, and through the various clubs of its students.

The school has initiated numerous outreach activities as part of its corporate social responsibility.

  • Diliman Prep Commonwealth donated tables and chairs to some schools on Quezon City;
  • Staff and faculty members who were devastated by Typhoon Ondow were given foam beds and pillows;
  • Students from all levels donated several sacks of clothing canned goods, school supplies and other goods to victims of Typhoon Ondoy in Quezon City, Marikina, and nearby cities;
  • Diliman Prep Commonwealth CAT helped in the clean-up operations for the Ondoy victims;
  • Medical and Dental Missions, Feeding Program, and Gift-giving was conducted by Novaliches  campus for Brgy. Gloria V;
  • the Library department conducted an outreach program to Manggagawa ni San Jose in Quezon City

In previous years, Diliman Preparatory School extended its services beyond the  school community through the following projects and activities:

  • Each club in Diliman Prep has a social action component which enables club members to plan and execute outreach projects to certain groups. For example, the English Club teach English to a group of public school students.
  • Proceeds from the Christmas Raffle in December 2008 were set aside to provide 1000 public school teachers access to the English Proficiency Intervention Program offered by Diliman Prep.
  • Diliman Prep Commonwealth donated tables, chairs and library materials to the Balara Elementary School, among others.
  • Parents and relatives of faculty, students, and staff received medical assistance (surgical procedures and treatment of major diseases) from the National Kidney Institute and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
  • A medical mission as a collaborative project of all sectors of DEC.
  • Students from all levels donated a total of two tons of clothing, canned goods, and other products for victims of typhoon Frank in Iloilo province.

By mid-2010, the management of DEC, Diliman Prep and DCTI, realized that the various good intentions and efforts could best be managed and coordinated through a collective program, now known as Social Outreach Advocacy Response (SOAR) Program.

SOAR hopes to

  1. encourage the participation of the Diliman Prep community– its students, parents, teachers, staff, alumni, and other partners– in social development work, and
  2. work with community-based people’s organizations and institutions (governmend and non-government organizations) in common efforts to  promote a just, peaceful, caring, fair, and humane society.

SOAR will focus on three program components, and will focus attention on:

  • Volunteer Formation to build a strong base through which to build awareness for social development work within the school community, and will include such activities as leadership training seminars, disability orientation, immersion and exposure-integration trips to various institutions and communities.
  • Education and Advocacy to persuade many more members of the Diliman Prep community to take constructive and relevant action pressing issues challenging our society today. Activities include seminars and workshops, discussion groups, and information campaigns.
  • Special Activities that extend the Diliman Prep SOAR Program to the needs of the school and the larger community through medical and dental missions, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, fund-raising activities, relief operations, livelihood programs, and scholarship programs.
